Greening of the London Olympic games site

Photo from Andy Wilkes on Flikr (also www.insidelondon2012.blogspot.com)

It has been reported that the planting to the Olympic site in East London has been completed.

The planting of the new park includes 4,000 semi-mature trees and over 300,000 wetland plants planted on a former brownfield site.  There are also vast areas of nectar-rich annual and perennial meadows designed and sown to flower during London 2012 courtesy of Nigel Dunnett, James Hitchmough and their team at Sheffield University.

The park which has been designed by Hargreaves Associates design, with local partners LDA Design takes it inspiration from traditional Victorian and post-war park design and combines this with the latest innovations in green technology.

It is hoped that the park will continue to be used by both people and wildlife after the games are completed.

I look forward to seeing the executed landscape design and to hearing your views on it.
