Press Release from the Irish Landscape Institute
15/09/11:
"The
President of the Irish Landscape Institute (ILI), Maryann Harris, noted the
publication of the document today by Government in the development of a
National Landscape Strategy for Ireland. She stated:
‘The
ILI hopes that the document will be an important step forward for Ireland in
honouring our commitment as a signatory to the European Landscape Convention
(ELC) since 2002. We expect that the Strategy should ensure that a valuable
national resource is understood more fully, managed for maximum benefits to the
Irish people and protected for future sustainability. This public consultation
period will provide an opportunity for all sectors, be they economic or
environmental interests, to become involved in shaping the future landscape of
Ireland. The ILI will issue a response as part of this consultation process.
The
Irish Landscape Institute, as the professionally accredited body under the
European Federation for Landscape Architecture (EFLA), has been working for
several years toward this Strategy and recently with the Irish government on
the National Landscape Strategy Steering Group.’
The
ILI is the professional body representing landscape architects in Ireland and
is a registered member of EFLA and the International Federation of Landscape
Architects (IFLA). Its aims includethe setting of standards in the fields of
landscape planning, landscape architecture and landscape management. It is
directly involved with the university degree programme in landscape
architecture for the island of Ireland.”
