Architecture review: National September 11 Memorial

I think that this article by Christopher Hawthorne, Los Angeles Times Architecture Critic in their August 12, 2011 edition is interesting as a review of the way architectural competitions are put together and run as much as for the design of the memorial...

  1. Very interesting article Tim thanks for posting,as a final year student in U.C.D Landscape Horticulture 2004 i covered memorials in Landscape Architecture as my thesis and The Trade centre Memorial also. As with all public works critical views are always subjective. But the overriding fact is the debate over such a sensitive area and the length of time it has taken to complete the project. I visited NY in 2009 and the New Yorkers held this view also, considering the speed that the 102 storey Empire State building took to build in 1932 ( 402 days or one storey every 4 days)the comparrison if you can make one is very interesting.
